Upside Down Text Generator
Type or paste your text and it appears upside down, rotated 180°, so "Hello" becomes "ollǝH". Copy it into a chat, post or bio, or switch the direction to turn flipped text back.

How to use the upside down text generator
- Type or paste your text in the box, press Example to try the sample sentence, or use Open file to load a plain-text file (.txt, .csv, .md and similar).
- Leave Direction on Plain → fancy. The upside-down version appears under the box as you type.
- Press Copy next to the result and paste it where you need it.
- To read flipped text, paste it in and choose Fancy → plain text. The box then shows it right way up, with its own Copy button.
- The links under the tool carry your text to the reverse text generator, the fancy text generator with all styles, and the small text generator.
Clear empties the box. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.
How the flip works
Unicode has no “rotate” setting for text, so the generator imitates a 180° turn in two steps:
- Every character is swapped for an upside-down look-alike. Many come from the IPA phonetic alphabet, which already includes rotated letters: ɐ is officially named Latin small letter turned a, ǝ turned e, ɥ turned h and ɹ turned r. Where no turned letter exists, the tool uses a letter that happens to look like one: b becomes q, d becomes p, n becomes u, A becomes the math sign ∀ (for all).
- The order is reversed. When you turn a line of text over, its last character ends up on the left, so “Hi!” becomes “¡ᴉH”, not “Hᴉ¡”.
The reversal works on characters as you see them, so an emoji with a skin tone or a letter with an accent is moved as one unit and never split. Line breaks stay where they are relative to the text, which means the last line comes out first, just as on a page turned upside down.

Worked examples
These are copied from the tool’s output:
| Before | After |
|---|---|
| Hello, upside down world! | ¡plɹoʍ uʍop ǝpᴉsdn ’ollǝH |
| Happy Birthday | ʎɐpɥʇɹᴉꓭ ʎddɐH |
| Ready? Go! | ¡o⅁ ¿ʎpɐǝᴚ |
| Call me at 555-0199 | 66Ɩ0-ϛϛϛ ʇɐ ǝɯ llɐƆ |
| #1 fan :) | (: uɐɟ Ɩ# |
Several lines are flipped as one block, so the line order is reversed too:
Line 1 Ɛ ǝuᴉ⅂
Line 2 → ᄅ ǝuᴉ⅂
Line 3 Ɩ ǝuᴉ⅂
What does not flip
- Accented letters, emoji and other scripts stay as they are. Only the characters in the table above have a look-alike; everything else keeps its place in the reversed order but is not turned. “café” becomes “éɟɐɔ”, with the é still upright. Run the text through remove accents first if you want every letter flipped.
- Symbols such as # % / : ; - + = and spaces are moved but not changed. Some, like - and =, look the same either way.
- Q has no good match. Unicode has no turned capital Q, so the tool uses Ὁ, a Greek capital omicron with an accent mark. The look-alikes for capital B, D, K and P come from the Lisu and Cyrillic alphabets, so their shape depends on the font.
- The result is not searchable as your words. Searching a post for “hello” will not match “ollǝɥ”, because they are different characters. Keep the normal text where people need to find or read it, such as names, links and instructions.
Turning flipped text back
With Fancy → plain text selected, the tool checks whether every letter in the text is one of the flipped look-alikes in the table above. If so, it reverses the text and swaps each look-alike back, so “¡ʎɐpɥʇɹᴉq ʎddɐH” becomes “Happy birthday!” again. On this page that includes flips made only of ordinary letters: “uoou” comes back as “noon”, and “SOS” stays “SOS”. The same mode also cleans up the other fancy text styles, such as bold or circled letters.
Letters that have no look-alike, such as accented letters, are left upright by the flip, so the way back skips them too: “éɟɐɔ” (from “café”) comes back as “café”. This needs at least one rotated letter such as ɐ, ǝ or ɥ in the text; “éou” (from “noé”) has none, so it is left as it is. Text from another generator that used different look-alikes is turned back with those letters unchanged: some use the Hebrew letter פ for an upside-down G, so “ʎɐpɥʇɹᴉפ” comes back as “פirthday”. Two more limits: a ¿ or ¡ is always read as a flipped ? or !, so “¿Qué?” flipped and turned back gives “?Qué?”, and a run of symbols with no rotated form (such as ; : /) is not recognized as flipped and stays reversed.
Upside-down text in Word and on keyboards
This tool changes the characters, so the effect survives copy and paste into plain-text places such as chats, comments, usernames and bios. Word processors can instead turn a box of normal text: in Microsoft Word, put the text in a text box or WordArt, then go to Shape Format → Rotate → More Rotation Options and enter 180 in the Rotation box. The text stays editable and searchable but only looks rotated inside that document.
The two characters people most often want on their own are ¿ (U+00BF, inverted question mark) and ¡ (U+00A1, inverted exclamation mark), used at the start of Spanish questions and exclamations. On Windows, hold Alt and type 0191 or 0161 on the numeric keypad with Num Lock on; Microsoft Office apps also accept Alt+Ctrl+Shift+? and Alt+Ctrl+Shift+!. Or type ? or ! here and copy the flipped mark.

Questions
How do I copy and paste upside down text?
Type your text in the box, then press Copy next to the Upside down result and paste it anywhere. The result is plain Unicode text, not an image, so it pastes into chats, social posts, bios, documents and email like any other text.
How do I turn upside down text back to normal?
Paste the flipped text into the box and choose Fancy → plain text under Direction. When every letter in it is a flipped look-alike, the text is turned the right way up and put back in order, so "ollǝH" becomes "Hello" and even "uoou" becomes "noon". Letters the flip leaves upright, such as an accented é, stay as they are while the rest is turned back, so "éɟɐɔ" becomes "café", as long as the text also has a rotated letter such as ɐ or ǝ.
How do I write upside down and backwards?
This tool already does both. Turning a line 180° puts the last character first, so the tool flips every character and reverses their order. If you only want the order reversed, with normal letters, use the reverse text generator.
How do I type an upside-down question mark or exclamation mark?
In Windows, hold Alt and type 0191 on the numeric keypad for ¿ or 0161 for ¡, with Num Lock on. In Microsoft Office apps you can also press Alt+Ctrl+Shift+? or Alt+Ctrl+Shift+!. Or type ? or ! here and copy the flipped ¿ or ¡.
How do I write upside down in Microsoft Word?
Put the text in a text box or WordArt, select it, then go to Shape Format, select Rotate, More Rotation Options and enter 180 in the Rotation box. That turns the box itself. Text from this generator is different, because it is made of upside-down characters, so it stays upside down when pasted as normal text.
Does upside down text work on Discord and other apps?
It is ordinary Unicode text, so it pastes into any app that accepts text. Whether every character shows depends on the fonts on the reader's device; a few look-alikes, such as the ones for Q, B and D, come from less common Unicode blocks and may look different or show as boxes on older systems.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The flipping runs in your browser. The text is kept only in this browser tab so it is still there if you open another tool, and it disappears when you close the tab.
