About TextToolSet
Free tools to count, convert, clean and extract text, each with the rules it follows written out.
TextToolSet is a collection of 70 text tools for the small jobs that come up when you write, study, publish or work with data: checking a word count against a limit, fixing text copied from a PDF, turning a heading into title case, cleaning a mailing list or decoding a link. Each tool page explains exactly what the tool does, including the cases that trip tools up, so you can trust the result or check it yourself.
Your text stays on your device
Every tool runs in your browser with JavaScript. The text you paste is processed on your computer or phone; it is not uploaded, logged or stored on a server. This matters when the text is a contract draft, a customer list or unpublished work. It also makes the tools fast and lets them handle long texts without limits on use. You can check this yourself: once a tool page has loaded, it keeps working with your connection turned off.
How the tools are built and checked
- Written-out rules. Counting and conversion rules are stated on each page: what counts as a word, which words title case keeps lowercase in AP, APA, Chicago and MLA style, how duplicate lines are compared.
- Unicode-aware. Accented letters, emoji and non-Latin scripts are handled as you see them. An emoji counts as one character and reversing text does not break it apart.
- Tested. The text functions behind the tools have automated tests for the cases that commonly go wrong, such as abbreviations in sentence counts, ALL CAPS input in case converters and broken percent signs in URLs.
- Sources. Where a tool relies on outside facts, such as average reading speed or a style guide’s capitalization rules, the page names the source.
